He's using a non standard tuning, unlike Hendrix, who used standard tuning (and had enormous hands.) It proves that anyone can be taught anything but only a genius can be the first, the original, the innovator. I don't know about the Hendrix: he drops the sixth string to D for his Third Man theme - maybe drops the A to G as well - open G6?
