On Friday February 11, the day Egyptian president Hosni Mubarak stepped down, CBS correspondent Lara Logan was covering the jubilation in Tahrir Square for a "60 Minutes" story when she and her team and their security were surrounded by a dangerous element amidst the celebration. It was a mob of more than 200 people whipped into frenzy.
In the crush of the mob, she was separated from her crew. She was surrounded and suffered a brutal and sustained sexual assault and beating before being saved by a group of women and an estimated 20 Egyptian soldiers. She reconnected with the CBS team, returned to her hotel and returned to the United States on the first flight the next morning. She is currently in the hospital recovering.
There will be no further comment from CBS News and correspondent Logan and her family respectfully request privacy at this time.
Journalists take risks in war zones. They aim to uncover the facts, not distortions of the truth. The cost can be high and this news is very bad. It's not just that she is white or American or a woman, or that she has a baby son at home and a husband. It is that she wanted the truth to be seen and heard and today, that truth has been trampled into the ground.

l read that over 50 journalists were attacked over this protest period in the square and 70 or so arrested.
l have to ask, and shoot me down if l'm wrong, but given this number and Lara being an attractive woman, at what point do journalists say 'this is too dangerous'.
This is a news story. After checking, I noticed none of the UK press were carrying it so I decided to run it before they do.
I make no apologies for attempting to focus peoples' minds on the the dangers.

Yes, l've found it on Reuters and now on BBC. She's pictured moments before the attack (according to Reuters) dressed casually. l think before l comment more l'll wait to see if any more info comes out.
And yet the religion of peace tells us how much they respect women......presumably only those they can't see because they're wearing a black bathing tent.
Poor Lara. Feel so sorry for her. Perhaps she will be helpful in making a change to inform the world about the horrors of Islam.
